Residents of Mandeni come out in their thousands to eliminate the element of surpriseSundumbili plaza in Mandeni hosted a scrutinize campaign on 14 November 2009. Over 2 000 locals gathered at the plaza to participate in the event and also had the opportunity to get tested. Welile Tembe and Joey Rasdien facilitated the risk game which focused on messages such as partner reduction, correct and consistent condom use, risks related to alcohol use and transactional sex. Entertainment was provided by local musical star Bhekumzuzi Luthuli, L’Vovo Derango and DJ Siyanda. With lots of giveaways and prizes which were won, locals participated eagerly and had fun while being engaged in the event. Scrutinize MuralsDuring August and September 2009 Matchboxology under the banner of SCRUTINIZE arranged for the painting of 13 murals in high priority HIV districts in South Africa. University of KwaZulu-Natal, KwaZulu-NatalScrutinizers at UKZN went local using Isicathamiya- with scrutinize lyrics, drumming, chalking and a bit of one-on-one to get the Scrutinize message across. The condom Olympics provided students the chance to check out just how well they could score gold when doing the act. Joey Rasdien was joined by Big NUZ who added a bit of the Scrutinize flavor to their popular songs. Over four days and a couple of hundred of kilometers later they used ambush theatre, poetry, dancing, banners and murals to get students to talk about the behaviours that place them at risk of HIV. On the final day Welile Tembe who stars as Virginia the Shebeen Queen in Scrutinize and Fezile from SABC 1 got the students to scrutinize their risk while being rocked by a local Umtata artist. University of Limpopo, Turfloop CampusCheck the action at Turfloop where Scrutinizers turned up the heat involving local schools and the surrounding communities in the Scrutinize Live activities. Local performers used drama, poetry, and dancing to explore why people have more than one partner and risks of having many partners. Cee Cee from SABC1 joined Joey Rasdien while JR hip hopped the 2000 students at the final event to the scrutinize themes. University of the Western Cape, Western Cape ProvinceThe rain in Cape Town could not damper the Scrutinize vibe taking the land by storm. At UWC students gave some poetry to the scrutinize theme while others went groovy to the scrutinize beat. Joey Rasdien and popular SABC 1 presenter Bonang Matheba added their shine to the final day while Slikour featuring sugasmaxx provided some sweet slik to the scrutinize rhythm. Vaal University, GautengFrom Soweto to Sebokeng to Sharpeville and Vereeniging Scrutinizers at Vaal University let the river flow as they got students flowing to the Scrutinize themes. Hip hop, dance, poetry, traditional arts and culture and sports were all used to engage young people and students around the Scrutinize themes. Fezile of SABC 1 and Welile brought the house down while JR joined by Morafe got the 3000 plus strong crowd hopping to the Scrutinize beat.
